FAQ Tree Service.

Do you offer tree and landscaping service?

We only specialize in trees! We do not mix the 2 trades as they are separate and distinct. There are some companies that offer both services, however, our philosophy is we would prefer not to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. Our tree technicians are fully trained in all aspects of tree tasks and we have the right equipment to make sure the work is done accurately he first time. As our web pages indicate we can offer our clients tree removal, tree pruning, stump grinding and tree maintenance and care.

What city do you operate out of and what areas do you serve?

We are a local tree company operating out of Barrie. With the Barrie Ontario population of approximately 145,000 and growing we primarily serve the city of Barrie, however, if required we do offer our tree services to the surrounding areas of West Gwillimbury, Innisfil, Mara, Matchedash, Medonte, Nottawasaga, Orillia, Oro, Rama and Tecumseth.

What tree disposal options are available?

It is always recommended when you get a quote from a tree service company to ask if tree disposal is included. Disposal can be via a wood chipper or cut into logs for the fireplace. We also recommend that our clients check city recycling laws to ensure they are in compliance.

When is the best time to prune or remove trees?

Beyond the season, there are other factors to consider when pruning or removing trees. We like to recommend tree pruning in the winter months when the tree is dormant and less susceptible to infections. Yes, a tree is a living and breathing organism and tree disease may impact the life of your tree.

Is tree topping a good idea?

Topping of a tree targets the most recent tree leaves and branches and really is not recommended as it shocks the tree. If there are structural defects with the tree we may consider it, however, this would only be done after a thorough assessment by our trained tree experts.

What does it cost to remove a tree from my property?

Again, this is really dependent on a few factors as mentioned above. Each job is different, however, as a ball park a small tree removal cost is between $400 - $600, an average tree removal cost is between $600 - $1200 and a large tree removal cost is greater than $1500.  These are just averages; each job varies based on local site conditions.

What determines your tree removal pricing?

We offer a comprehensive assessment and quote on all tree projects.  However, there are several factors that would come in play before offering our clients a firm quote.  They include: the estimated age of the tree, how tall is the tree, the overall health of the tree and where the tree is situated. All these factors determine the number of staff we need onsite, the appropriate tree equipment we require and the estimated time required to complete the project.

Why can I not remove a tree myself from my property?

You could. However, would you replace all your tires on your car? Would you work on the transmission on your car? Most people are not skilled in the art of proper tree removal. You also run the risk of having the tree fall into your neighbor's lawn damaging their property. More serious is you could injure yourself while removing the tree. Cutting down branches and tree trunks require the proper calculations to ensure the tree limbs fall in the proper direction and does not damage your property. Let's face it there are tons of YouTube videos showing tree removals gone wrong.

Why should I really trim my tree?

Like any living thing, we need to maintain and care for it or risk it grows wild and eventually being a safety concern. We recommend an annual tree maintenance plan to ensure your tree does not overtake your property. Also, it helps maintain the appearance and aesthetics of your property with properly groomed trees and finally it increases the longevity of your tree by maintaining good health of your tree.

Do you offer annual tree maintenance plans for commercial properties?

We certainly do and we encourage it. Having overgrown trees with a potential of a limb breaking off and damaging a car parked on a commercial property increases a businesses risk of being sued and suffering additional losses. An annual maintenance plan that can be tailored to your business needs which includes services such as tree trimming, tree inspection, soil management and tree fertilization are included as part of our package. We also offer similar tree upkeep plans to our residential clients.

Can I as a homeowner do anything to help extend the life of my trees?

We encourage our homeowners to take an active part in regularly visually inspecting their trees to look for any damage or disease. It is often a good idea to do this as the seasons change. Some other things as a homeowner you can do to help lengthen the life of your tree investment are actions such as: ensuring lawn mowers do not damage the tree bark, not digging around the base of your tree and exposing the feeder roots, not spraying chemicals close to the base of the tree, using fertilizer sticks to promote tree development, looking out for any insect invasions around your tree.

What is the Emerald Ash Borer?

Unfortunately, the Simcoe County has been infected by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) which has resulted in the cutting down of over 5000 Ash trees in the City of Barrie alone. EAB are a small insect that infect the tree and start slowly killing off the tree. If you suspect this is the case, we encourage you to also call the City of Barrie to confirm the best course of action.  There are several online resources as well to help you determine if your tree is infected and what you can do in the wake of the infestation.

When removing a tree what do you do about the tree stump?

If you require the tree stump removed we can certainly offer that service, please ensure you advise our customer service representatives when booking the job or asking for a quote to specify that you want the tree removed including the stump.  Most tree removal jobs do not automatically include the stump removal as we require additional equipment to complete the job.

Would you recommend the removal of a tree stump?

We certainly do recommend tree stump removal as the stump that is left on your property slowly starts to die and becomes a home for termites and ants. Once they have successfully done their damage in the tree stump, they then start to look for food in other locations such as your remaining trees on your property. There also is the potential for them moving into your residential property in search for food. In addition, tree stumps do not die off right away. The roots under the soil will continue to grow and could damage underground pipes. Finally, a tree stump also is not aesthetically pleasing and reduces the value of your property.
